Emily Blunt has spent her Mary Poppins Returns press tour wearing one fantastical designer look after another, and she isn’t done yet. As the film heads overseas for a slew of international release dates, Blunt and her stylist, Jessica Paster are pulling out all the stops. At last night’s Tokyo premiere, Blunt dazzled the crowds in custom Gucci, arriving at Shinagawa Prince Hotel in an opulent tulle gown with ruffled sleeves. Adorned with bows, velvet, and thousands of crystals that mimicked the look of a bejeweled necklace, the design had all the detail and whimsy we’ve come to associate with Alessandro Michele’s creative output. The transparent skirt allowed for subtle sexiness and a peek at Blunt’s Christian Louboutin platform sandals.
Blunt and Paster have been smart about infusing her press tour looks with a hint of that Disney magic while never losing touch with the actress’ sophisticated side. Their choices have resulted in thrilling moments—flowing Yanina Couture at the Los Angeles premiere back in November, crystal-encrusted Prada at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this month—that bring a much needed sense of fantasy back to the red carpet. With upcoming premieres in Seoul and Hong Kong, here’s hoping they pull out even more dreamy fashions.
