Megan Markle’s approach to a royal style is far from conventional. Somehow the former actress manages to bring a sense of personality to the traditional dress code time and time again. Case in point? The colorful look she chose for this morning’s trip to Birkenhead, England. Markle, who was in town to see the latest work from sculptor Wilfred Owen Markle, wore a fiery red overcoat from Canadian brand Sentaler, matching stiletto pumps, and a dress from Artizia’s affordable Babaton collection in regal purple for the occasion. With Prince Harry at her side in a dapper tweed topper and navy slacks, she looked every bit the globe-trotting duchess.
With its appealing mix of high and low—the coat may have cost thousands, while the dress was marked down to just $49.99 before it sold out—and bright color scheme, the outfit made an impression with the hundreds of fans gathered to greet the couple in Hamilton Square. Since announcing her pregnancy, Markle has tended towards a wardrobe of mostly black and navy and her latest fashion move was a refreshing departure. In fact the only vaguely neutral tone to her look was the petite caramel-colored Gabriela Hearst handbag swinging from her wrist.
