Ed Sheeran made more money touring in 2018 than any other artist, including Beyoncé and Taylor Swift
The past year has been an incredibly confusing one, but one of the few bright lights were the female musicians who slayed the game. But it still wasn’t enough to beat Ed Sheeran when it came to gig revenue.
According to Rolling Stone, Ed made more touring this year than any other artist has in 30 years. He sold “4,860,482 tickets across 53 cities and 94 shows for an all-time record gross of $432 million (or £341 million)” By comparison, Taylor Swift’s tour made $345.1 (£272) million and Beyoncé’s tour made $254.1 (£201) million.
Taylor, who’s been friends with Ed for forever, probably feels like this about the news, because she is a good friend:
And, to be fair, Beyonce is probably happy for Ed too – she’s fan enough to have recorded a duet of hit song ‘Perfect’ with him… but there’s no denying that the news is surprising.
Beyoncé and Taylor’s tours were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Remember how Beyoncé dropped an entire surprise album during her tour? And Taylor’s tour was epic enough that Netflix wanted to make a whole documentary about it?!
here’s the official top ten list, from most tickets sold: Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z/Beyoncé, Pink, Bruno Mars, Eagles, Justin Timberlake, Roger Waters, U2, and The Rolling Stones. That’s just for worldwide tour sales.
