Akwa Ibom State University expels 21 students
The authorities of Akwa Ibom State University through the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has announced the expulsion of 21 students during a media briefing at Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enim Local Government Area of the state.
According to the VC, the students’ offences include phone theft, causing bodily harm to other students amongst others. Though the offences were committed in 2016, and the decision to expel them was just taken now because due process had to run its course.
Here’s what he said: “If you have issue and your case is sent to student disciplinary committee and we have students’ information handbook that tells you the dos and don’ts in the university.
“We don’t want to encourage truancy, and misbehavior, when you commit an offence, we send you there and then if you are found culpable, and you will be expelled from the institution.
“This is democracy, we don’t just wake up and expel somebody, and you must follow due process before anybody is expelled.” Ibanga said.
The University is quite tough on cultism, in a region that has a strong reputation for cultism, even from the secondary school level.
