77 Earn First Class As BIU Graduates 1,029

The Benson Idahosa University, Benin, will on Saturday celebrate its 20th convocation ceremony, where 1,029 graduates, the highest since the inception of the university, will bag various degrees at the university’s 20th convocation.

The Vice Chancellor of BIU, Prof John Okhuoya, who stated this in a statement said the number is the highest number of graduating students in a single convocation ceremony since the inception of the school.

In the press statement, made available to South-South PUNCH on Wednesday, the VC said 813 students will bag first degrees, while 216 will be awarded post-graduate degrees in different disciplines.

The VC noted that out of the fresh graduates, 77 will bag first class degree, 356 get second class upper, 318 bag second-class lower, while 62 fall in the third-class category.

Reeling out activities for this year’s ceremony, Prof. Okhuoya, said the ceremony would begin on Thursday with a convocation service at the university auditorium, Heritage Campus, Ugbor, by 10.00 a.m. with Rt. Rev. Asuquo Akpan Ekpo, ministering.

He said that at the convocation on Saturday, there will be a conferment of honorary degrees, postgraduate degrees, diplomas, first degrees and award of prizes at the university auditorium, Legacy Campus, Okha at 10 am.

He said, “I am excited to announce our upcoming 20th convocation ceremonies, scheduled for November 28 to 30, 2024. This is a momentous occasion to honour our graduates, their families, and the entire university community for their contributions to our vision and mission.

“We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our students, who have displayed resilience and dedication throughout their academic journey.

“Notable among the sets, is the graduating class from the Departments of Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing. They will be making history as our first set of graduating students from those departments.

“This year, we will be graduating 1029 students, 813

undergraduates and 216 postgraduates, while 77 will bag first class degree, 356 bag second class upper division, 318 get second class lower and 62 fall into third class.

“As part of our celebration, we will present several prestigious awards during the convocation. I encourage everyone to nominate individuals who have exemplified excellence in scholarship, leadership, and community service for the university to consider.”
