Sixty two graduates have bagged first class division at the second convocation ceremony of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa in Ondo State.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, said this during a Press Conference to herald the institutions convocation.
Ologunorisa added that “62 graduate finished from the institution with first class out of 1,202 that would be conferred with first degree in the coming convocation the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions of the university.
” The convocation, which would combine the two academic sessions, would hold with a lot of funfare to make it colourful.
He explained that 23 first class graduates were produced in the 2020/2021 academic session while 39 first class graduates were from 2022/2023 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor said that the 2021/2022 academic session was cancelled because of the prolonged industrial action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU).
Ologunorisa noted that the university has moved from a teaching university to a research institution having achieved a lot in the area of research.
He added that some of the university staff won N50 million and N250 million in different research programmes at different times in the past.
Ologunorisa said that his appointment as the substantive VC of the institution had brought tremendous development in the last two years to the university.
He stated that the institution had only three faculties before being increased to six faculties, adding that the university PhD students would graduate in the next few years.
The vice chancellor noted that his leadership had been able to stabilize academic calendar of the university, having paid all entitlements and dues of the university’s staff because his leadership was running an efficient system having blocked all financial leakages.
Ologunorisa appreciated the late governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, for his infrastructural development stride in the institution and the Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC) for providing solar road light in the institution.
The vice chancellor, called on the state governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, not to abandon the university, regretting that administration before Akeredolu could not carry out infrastructural projects in the institution in his eight-year rule.
He said that there were many projects being abandoned in the university for 10 years, asking Aiyedatiwa to visit the university and bring positive transformation to it.
Ologunorisa cited a proposed School of Maritime project being abandoned in the university, saying that if the school could start, it would align with blue economy initiative of President Bola Tinubu.
The university, the Vice Chancellor said had signed Memoranda of Understanding ( MoU) with some institutions abroad in research, students and staff exchange policy.
Ologunorisa, urged the governor to intervene in development programmes of the institution that would bring its dream to reality.
