At the 67th Grammy Awards, Lamar won five Grammys, including best music video, best rap performance, best rap song, song of the year and record of the year, all for his hit “Not Like Us.”
Kendrick Lamarβs βNot Like Usβ emerged as the biggest rap hit, sweeping all five categories it was nominated for, including βSong of the Year,β βBest Rap Song,β and βBest Music Video.β The track, widely regarded as the definitive response in Lamarβs long-running feud with Drake, solidified his dominance in the hip-hop scene.
βNot Like Usβ made history by becoming only the second hip-hop song to win βRecord of the Year,β following Childish Gambinoβs βThis Is Americaβ in 2019. However, rather than focusing on the milestone, Lamar used his acceptance speech to honour his hometown of Los Angeles, which had recently been devastated by wildfires.
βWeβre gonna dedicate this one to the city,β he said. βCompton, Long Beach, Inglewood, Hollywood, out to the valleyβ¦ This is my neck of the woods that held me down since a young pup.β
