‘200-Level Student Who Murdered FUNAAB Undergraduate Was Fellow Church Member’

Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The duo reportedly knew each other from attending the same church in Ogun State.

Christianah had left her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, en route to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where she was undergoing industrial training.

While traveling, she encountered heavy rain and sought shelter at Adeleye’s family shop, which was located near his home.

A source revealed to FIJ, an online publication, that Adeleye, who had known Christianah through their mutual school and church affiliations, invited her into his house when the rain intensified.

While inside, Adeleye allegedly attempted to assault her, but when she resisted, he killed her.

Following her disappearance, Adeleye reportedly contacted Christianah’s family using her phone and demanded a ransom of N3 million, which was later negotiated down to N350,000.

However, his attempt to extort money led to his capture, as intelligence officers were able to trace the abductor using his bank details and BVN information provided when he collected the ransom.

The case has sparked outrage, with many calling for swift justice for Christianah and a stronger response to gender-based violence in Nigeria.
