The university has without doubts being the nations pride as it is fondly referred to by its students and has stand to the test of time to prove this,  it has achieved great name for itself, by producing and grooming prominent, indigenous, famous and outstanding figures with leading position in different ramification of  Nigeria. Here are some of the great Akokites holding remarkable positions in the public places.


Akinwumni Ambode

He is the present Governor of Lagos state. He ran the office of the Governor of Lagos State in 2015 as a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress. He had also worked as a civil servant for 27 years before going into political ambition. He obtained a bachelor and also a Master’s degree in Accounting from the prestigious university of Lagos.

Prof. Yemi Osibanjo

He is the current Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He assumed Office in May 2015, also a senior Advocate of Nigeria. He studied for his undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Lagos. He is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor of Law and until his inauguration as Vice President, a Senior Partner with SimmonsCooper Partners, a commercial law practice.


Oba Rilwan Akiolu

He is the incumbent traditional ruler, Oba of Lagos. He was crowned on August 9, 2003 after his predecessor Oba Adeyinka Oyekan. He obtained Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Lagos.

Though the king has no political power, but is sought as a counselor or sponsor by Nigerian politicians who seek support from the various residents of Lagos.

He bagged a degree in Business Administration from University of Lagos. He is the chairman of WAP (Wale Adenuga Production).


Tony Elumelu

He is an Economist, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist; he is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank for Africa, Transcorp and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. He was listed as one of the 100 most influential persons by African Magazine and is also recognized as Africa’s 20 most powerful people in 2012 by Forbes Magazine. He obtained a masters of Science degree from the University of Lagos.


Linda Ikeji

Linda Ikeji is a blogger; entrepreneur and former model became famous for her blog, Lindaikejisblog.com. She is about the number one blogger in Nigeria.

She recently launched a new face of her business; the LIS OnlineTV and Radio. She obtained a degree in English from University of Lagos.


Joy Uche Angela Ogwu

She is an Alumna of the great University of Lagos; she obtained a Ph.D from the University of Lagos in 1977 and joined the institute of international Affairs at the University of Lagos. She was formerly the Foreign minister of Nigeria and has been the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations in New York since 2008. She is also the First woman in the history of Nigeria to uphold the position of the Permanent Representative to the United Nations. She has also worked as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.


Genevieve Nnaji,

Beautiful and ever young super diva Genevieve is an Alumna of the University of Lagos where she graduated with bachelor degree in creative arts. While at the university, she began auditioning for acting jobs in Nollywood.

The actress and singer has a couple of awards including; the African Movie Academy Awards for the best Actress in a leading roles and has also featured in soap operas. She has contributed immensely towards growth of Nollywood and she was in 2011 awarded by the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a Member of the Order of the federal republic.


Richard Mofe Damijo

Handsome, attractive and jolly RMD as he is fondly called by his fans is a renowned actor, every Ladies favorite on screen and also a politician. He has a number of awards to his credit including the African Movie Academy Award for the best Actor.

He was the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State in 2009.


Stella Damascus

The pretty, screen diva who hail from Edo State is a graduate of Theatre Arts from University of Lagos, she was brought to limelight in 1992 through a movie ‘’Abused’’. She has won many awards among including best actress in a leading role at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2009 and the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2007.

She has made appearance on many movies among which are games women play, two brides and a baby which fetched her award at the Golden Icons Academy Awards in Houston.
