UNN Shut as Students’ Protest turned Violent

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been shut indefinitely and the Students Union Government (SUG) suspended over the violent protest embarked upon by the students’ body of the institution over poor academic environment.

The closure of the school was revealed in a statement made by the school Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smart N Uchegbu on Wednesday 15, June 2016. In the statement, the management notified the students of immediate and indefinite closure of the school following the protest which brought academic activities to a standstill.

The statement reads “This is to bring to the notice of the University Community that in the light of the violent protest and monumental destruction of properties on 13th June, 2016, the Vice Chancellor has approved the implementation of the measures listed below: “Immediate suspension of the Enugu Campus Student Union Government; and closure of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus indefinitely.
