Tai Solarin Students Protest Non-Payment of Lecturers Salaries

Students of the Tai Solarin University of Education have embarked on a protest to kick against the non-payment of the institution’s lecturers salaries.

Punch reported that the Ogun State Government has not paid the lecturers their salaries since the last fourteen months.

However, the student took it upon their selves to protest the non-payment rather than waiting for the lecturers to start any industrial action, when they stormed the popular Iwe Iroyin; the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, located at Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

It’s been reported that the students were conveyed to the venue in three buses, and they peacefully alighted the vehicles and displayed placards with several write ups stating the objective of their protest.

Some inscriptions boldly written on the placards reads, “Amosun save TASCE from extinction, ”Lectures are not going on in TASCE,” “Amosun restore education at TASCE” and “Please we students are suffering in TASCE”, Punch reports.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting students, Dotun Opaleye, Chairman Ogun State Chapter, National Association of Nigerian Students, said that the delayed payment of their lecturers has negatively affected their studies and the school in general.
