Uber-talented Nigerian singer cum songwriter Kay Jay Ogbonna is now enjoying a new lease of life. Having previously signed a futile management & record label deal in the past. Kay Jay has just put pen to paper on a multi million Naira management deal with The Boost Entertainment who will now be responsible for handling all his bookings and management affairs.
Kay Jay (born Victor Ogbonna, from Abia State) started music professionally in 2012 as a songwriter, composing songs for A list African/Nigerian artists such as Tunde Ednut (‘Catching Cold’), Iyanya (‘Iyanu Mashele’), KCEE (‘Burn’ & ‘Psycho’), Naeto C, Kach (‘Olo’), Chuddy K (‘Go Down’), Stunna (‘Balance’ featuring Iyanya), Samklef, Tillaman, Bimbi Philips (‘Duro Dada’).
With relative hit songs such as ‘Sell Over’ featuring Skales & Omo Akin (Produced by Kenny Wonder) and ‘Work & Pray’ featuring Shaydee (Produced by Blaq Jerzee), Kay Jay is set to release a new single in November 2018 produced by Blaq Jerzee, as well as announcements of future endorsements and partnerships, and plans for his body of work coming soon.
Kay Jay is currently nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2018 ‘Fresh Vibes of The Year’ category alongside the likes of Davido’s artist Peruzzi, rumor has it that Kay Jay is the new kid on the block to watchout for.
In his words “I signed with The Boost Entertainment firstly because we have the same vision, I see them making me one of the biggest artists in Nigeria and beyond. Despite being newly established, this is one of the first and few music management companies in Nigeria that fund the artist, and I feel that is how it should be – it gave me even more assurance to work with them. They are not just bringing funds, strategy and ideas; they are bringing full hands on involvement and direction, with a unique attention to visual content creation – this is the structure that many (new/upcoming and young) Nigerian artists require to launch and succeed, our problems have always been how to finance and how to promote our music. The Boost Entertainment will provide all the support I require to achieve my goals and dreams. Five years from now I see myself becoming a big brand, winning multiple awards, opening an NGO to give back to communities by feeding the homeless and helping the less privileged. I also hope to write a book about the business of songwriting, in which I will detail the challenges we face as songwriters in the Nigerian music industry.“
The Boost Entertainment corroborated his statement with “Fate had its way when we crossed paths with Kay Jay while in search for music talents. The Boost Entertainment was established with a mission to catapult noteworthy artists to greater heights by providing all the fundamental support that artists require to initiate, expand, and progress. As already mentioned by the artist, one of the highlights of meeting Kay Jay was a mutually shared vision and approach, which led to an instant synergy and flow. With this official signing of Kay Jay our first artist, we plan to activate and create a new SI unit for music content management and creative business positioning. We at The Boost Entertainment believe that strategy and business direction with the right goals are the key structures in building a 360 music powerhouse.”
