Joe Jackson was laid to rest on Monday, according to multiple reports.
The Jackson patriarch was honored with a private service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., that was attended by family and close friends. It’s the same cemetery where his son Michael Jackson is entombed. In photos obtained by TMZ, Janet Jackson is pictured at the funeral dressed in black.
Joe’s children and grandchildren — many of whom have publicly posted tributes to the family patriarch — paid their last respects at his gravesite. Joe’s eldest son, Jackie, shared a photo of himself and his son on Instagram Monday afternoon in black suits.
Prince Jackson, Michael’s youngest son, shared on his Instagram Story on Sunday that he was on his way back to L.A.
Joe passed away at age 89 on June 27 after battling cancer (it has been reported, but unconfirmed, that it was pancreatic).
The legacy Joe leaves behind is a controversial one. The architect of the Jackson 5, Joe launched a musical dynasty, taking his family from blue-collar to legendary. However, he was both physically and mentally abusive to his children on their rise to fame. His most complicated relationship was with Michael. The “Thriller” singer infamously fired his father as his manager and cut him out of his will. Exactly where Joe will be laid to rest in relation to his son is unknown.
The private funeral is the first of two services planned; a public one is expected in the near future.
