“I was treated like the President’s daughter …” Winner of Glo GO RUSSIA Promo

For Uzoma Ebube Benson, 200 Level student of Public Administration at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, travelling to Europe this year was never in her plan.  If any prophet or soothsayer had predicted that she will visit a foreign land in 2018, Uzoma would have dismissed such prediction with utmost disregard to vision.  She would have advised the soothsayer to “shine his eyes very well” and look at his oracle again; otherwise, he would be considered as a man hallucinating under a feverish condition.   As a student looking forward to graduating with good grade in the next two years, barring any strike actions, it is possible to guess that Uzoma is focused on doing the NYSC, travel for higher degree, where feasible, or settle for a good job in a government establishment.   But mother luck smiled at her before graduation.   God changed her plans by using Globacom to bring shine to her destiny through a product promo.

What started like a joke when she received a call from the telecommunications service provider announcing that she was one of the lucky 22 who emerged winners of the network’s GO RUSSIA promo, soon assumed incredulity in her subconscious and was dispelled only when she landed in the European nation few days after the initial announcement. Uzoma Ebube Benson is a young woman whose excitement cannot be measured. She, alongside 20 other subscribers of telecommunications giant, Globacom, traversed the Eastern Europe country of Russia, visiting interesting places and capped it up by watching a match at the just-concluded World Cup live on the bills of the Globacom.  One of the 22 winners could not go due to ill-health.

Uzoma, a basketball player heartily recalled: “I was treated like President’s daughter!”

“Our trip was very nice. I missed “Up NEPA”, those moments when you will be charging your phone or reading your book and the power goes off, as there was steady light and steady food. Whatever we wanted was provided. At a point, I even started purging because of too much  food,” highly-elated Uzoma exclaimed with broad smile radiating her dimpled face.

Asked what she did to win the jackpot, she said, “Nothing except  using N3,000 on voice calls”. The promo also extended the eligibility to subscribers who loaded a minimum of N5, 000 on voice and data to qualify for the draw. Incremental usage of N500 over N3, 000 for voice or N5, 000 for voice and data attracted an extra entry to the draw meaning that the more the airtime used by subscribers, the higher the chances of winning.

She said the promo reminded her of other super promos like “180 Cars in 180 Days “, “Text for Millions”, and “Recharge to Stardom “and” Everyday Bonanza which the company successfully executed in the past.

Orewa Edwin Ehi from Port Harcourt, Aghaegbunem Marvel Chukwufumnaya from Abuja, Olugbokiki Mukail Omolola from Ogun State, Agbede Temidayo Bayodele from Ekiti State, Oladunjoye Joseph Babatunde from Ogun State, Kome Sunny Ikpeba from Delta State and Adeoye Adefisoye Simon from Oyo State who were in the first batch of winners were soon to return with tales of enjoyment and fun as they traversed different tourist attractions and also  watched the Nigeria-Croatia World Cup Group D match live  in Kaliningrad.

Said Orewa, “I enjoyed myself! Staying in Russia was fun. To travel to Russia with just three thousand naira? It is simply unbelievable! Even in my wildest dream, I did not imagine it. It is the grace of God. Sleeping in a deluxe hotel with a very big room to myself is a dream come true. If you are not using Glo yet, rush to get one and you can be a winner some day. People who say Russians are racists should banish that thought as they were very friendly. Anytime, any day, when they see a Nigerian, they are fascinated.  Some saw me put on green-white-green cap, they will say Nigerian? Please picture? Let me take picture with you.  It was fun!”

Osagie Edwin Isibor from Benin City, Mayowa Ibe Akinbode from Ijaiye in Abeokuta, Muyideen Olayiwola Disu from Isale Eko, Maxwell Igwegbe from Lugbe, Abuja, Popoola Abdulrafiu Olaide from Ijebu Igbo and Ebube Benson Uzoma from Imo State made the second batch of winners. However, Osagie Edwin Isibor could  not make the trip owing to ill-health. The other five winners left Lagos for Russia after a send-off ceremony on 23rdJune and for the next six days. “My experience in Russia was full of fun. I had a great time while there.  We went on boat cruising, watched a live match in the VIP suite where we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, eating all kinds of food. We had a great time. Our meals were buffets! The hotels where we were lodged were simply heavenly, exclusive and deluxe! I can never forget our boat cruise to St. Peters the Great and the museum. I cannot thank Glo enough. Thank you! Thank you!  Thank you, Glo!” Popoola exclaimed.
