Ariana Grande calls her Relationship with Mac Miller ‘toxic,’ says he couldn’t ‘keep his s*** Together’

Don’t question anyone’s motivation for ending a relationship. That’s the lesson of the day from Ariana Grande.

A fan took to Twitter on Monday to weigh in about the news that the songstress is dating Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson after her recent breakup with Mac Miller. The tweet was sympathetic to the rapper, who, in the days following his breakup with Grande, wrapped his car around a telephone pole and was arrested for drunk driving with a blood alcohol content of almost twice the legal limit.

It took Grande two days to notice the tweet and reply, but she did — in a very direct and candid manner. She called it “absurd” that the fan should “minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them.” That was only the beginning of her response.

Grande’s reply also shed insight into her breakup with Miller after their two-year romance. Her initial Instagram post confirming their split had a positive spin, calling Miller “one of my best friends in the whole world” and saying that they shared “unconditional love.” She went on to say, breaking the façade a little, that she wanted “the best for that person even if at the moment it’s not you.”

“I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” wrote the fearless feminist. “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s*** together is a very major problem. Let’s please stop doing that. Of course I didn’t share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well.”

Needless to say, the fan who posted the original message had a tail-between-the-legs moment. He responded with an apology and a longer note.

On May 10, TMZ and Entertainment Tonight reported that Grande and Miller had called it quits due to the old standby excuse of busy work schedules. Insiders said they would remain friends and “love each other dearly.”

The next day, Ariana posted this, and things seemed pretty positive.

On May 16, Miller crashed his car into a utility pole in the San Fernando Valley and fled the scene. He was later arrested at his home for a DUI and hit-and-run. When his blood alcohol content was tested at that point, it came back at twice the legally permissible limit.

On top of all that, on Monday People reported that Grande is casually seeing the SNL comedian. They had met in 2016, when she hosted the show. Things are currently in the beginning stages. (Davidson has also struggled with his sobriety.)
